Mel is a 5th year software engineering student with a deep passion for cybersecurity and the role that humans play in it. She loves learning about social engineering and how to better defend against it.

Her current research project is aiming to diminish the human error side of cybersecurity by keeping it at the forefront of everyone’s minds and reminding people to be vigilant. She is doing this using machine learning and human computer interaction techniques in order to create an effective chat bot. Mel is directing her research based on psychological studies about how humans react to phishing and other social engineering attacks.

Mel has also previously attended the Hacker Exchange where she developed and pitched a business idea to angel investors. Outside of her research and studies, she enjoys traveling and improving her skills in video games.
