(dis)connecting together
IoT@BIT China Study Tour 2018
Hi, 2019 students. I have some sad news: this course is not running in Summer ‘19/20 (because reasons). There’s some chance it’ll happen again in the future (e.g. Summer ‘20/21) but nothing’s locked in. Sorry about that 😢
In this course you will head to Beijing in November/December 2018 to study at the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) on the topic The Internet of Things (IoT)1. Over the (Australian) summer you’ll:
-
learn about low-cost, network-connected embedded computing devices & their relationship to the broader computing landscape
-
build a prototype IoT artefact exploring the theme (dis)connecting together
-
exhibit the artefact in the (dis)connecting together design showcase (held on-campus at the ANU in February 2019)
-
release the source code, parts list and build instructions for the artefact on GitHub
-
reflect on the design, security, social and ethical challenges associated with the Internet of Things
For more information, check out the course outline, the deliverables page and the course FAQ. If you have any other questions, ask on the forum or contact Ben at ben.swift@anu.edu.au. This study tour has been supported by the New Colombo Plan Mobility Program since 2016.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to (among other things) explain why this tweet is hilarious:
"how many servers could it take to turn on a light bulb lol"
