Scratch is a file space where you can place temporary files. The file stored here are ephemeral, which is to say they will be deleted automatically after 1 week, but may also be actively removed before this time.
Consider this space as temporary and don’t store private information here.
Each machine has it’s own scratch space locally which means you can store files larger than your quota. Some applications such as AndroidStudio and Postgres are setup to use this space automatically.
Each time you login a scratch folder /scratch/students/[username] is created for you, this is also mounted as scratch in your
home folder.
