Carbon Neutral Initiative at Logic Summer School @ ANU

Welcome to the dedicated page for our Carbon Neutral Initiative at the ANU Logic Summer School 2023. In our commitment to sustainability, we aim to limit and offset carbon emissions.

Our Commitment

At the ANU Logic Summer School we recognize the importance of environmental stewardship. We are aligning with ANU’s sustainability strategy and below-zero initiative to make the ANU Logic Summer School carbon neutral.

Actions and Strategies

  • Emission Assessment: We have conducted a detailed evaluation of the carbon footprint associated with the event, including air travel for students and speakers.
  • Offsetting: We are investing in renewable energy, tree planting, and other sustainable projects to offset our carbon emissions.
  • Sustainable Practices: To reduce our ecological footprint, only vegetarian meals and snacks will be provided at Logic Summer School.

Carbon Footprint Calculation

The ANU sustainability division has recommended this event’s emission calculator to calculate the carbon emissions from an event. The calculation includes emissions from travel and accommodation for the international and interstate participants.

The following summary was used for the calculation:

  ACT Other States International
Students 30 11 5
Lecturers 5 1 3

Using the calculator, we approximated the total emissions from the Logic School to be around 36 tonnes. Adding in emissions from travel to and from the excursion, the final figure was calculated to be 36.12 tonnes.

Supported Project

We are proud to support the TCS4F initiative, which aligns with our commitment to environmental sustainability.
