The exam is open book but any type of communication is strongly prohibited.
The exam will begin at 02:30 pm Canberra time on 14 November 2020, and will run for 3 hours.
The final exam covers all content from Week 2 to Week 12.

Screen recording:

The exam will be self-invigilated. You should create a screen recording of your entire exam, including a webcam image of you and an ID card. Note that this process is encouraged, but not required. You will not be asked to pass your recording on to ANU. You should keep your recording safely for one month. If the ANU should raise any concerns about the integrity of the work you did during the exam, you will have the option to submit your screen recording as evidence to support your case.

Find screen recording software that you trust works well on your computer. Test it, and make sure you can successfully record the whole of your screen. Some options:

Quicktime is built into MacOS and allows you to easily do a
screen recording. Instructions from Apple
here. Note that for
Mojave and later, you can bring up the screen recording with the
hotkey Shift+Command+5, described
here.

Free Cam is an
application for Windows that provides very similar features to
Quicktime. There are instructions on how to use Free Cam
  here.

VLC is a widely used
open source application for Windows, MacOs, and Linux. VLC
supports screen recordings as described
here.

Nvidia’s
    ShadowPlay
is a simple way to record your whole desktop if you are using
Windows and have a supported Nvidia graphics card. Here’s a
    youtube video
    explaining how to do it.

AMD offers similar software if you are using a
    supported
AMD graphics card. Details from AMD
    here.

if you decide to record your exam then ensure that you have a working webcam and bring up a live view of your face, and your ID card, while recording. Ensure that this works, so that your screen recording can include a live view of you and your ID (if you don’t have an ANU ID you should use your driver’s license or passport).
Before the exam, you need to make sure all of your software is working correctly, that you know how to do screen recordings, can capture a live view on your webcam while doing a screen recording.

Before the exam:

ensure you have a home setup for the course including ghc/ghci and VSCodium; or

ensure you have access to the lab environment via Linux VDI

ensure you can access COMP1100 on gradescope

At the start of the exam:

log in using your ANU email to gradescope

you will see final-semester Exam on gradescope under COMP1100.

COMP1100 final-semester exam

no student currently has access to this exam.

during the exam, tutors will be available on Piazza and Teams so that students can get help in case technical problems arise.

Oral Examinations

As part of the final exam, students are required to attend a followup oral examination, consisting of a small number of questions aiming to confirm their exam mark. If the convenor is not satisfied with the outcome of this oral examination, this may result in failure of the final exam and/or an investigation under ANU’s academic integrity rules.

Please go here and select a preferred time slot (do not choose xx:50 slots, e.g. 09:50). Select only one.

Oral examinations will be held on 16-17 November 2020 on Microsoft Teams.

The length of oral examinations will be 5-10 mins

Students need to have a photo ID which you can show before the oral exam on camera

Past Exams

Students can access exams of previous years which can be used to practice with the final exam. The number of weighting of questions and the material covered for the final exam may be different from the previous exams, more information will be posted later this week.

The final exam will be distributed via gradescope. Please read the following instructions carefully.

This course is the entry point to studying computer science at the ANU.

The material offered here will provide you with a solid foundation and
set of skills which you will revisit many times in your career.

The focus of the course is on building your ability to write code in
an organised and principled way. This is not a skill that can be
learned by sitting in a lecture theatre listening! Instead, the
lectures will introduce concepts which will only come alive for you
when you try them out. The absolute key to success in this course is
to spend time writing code. Hopefully we will all have a lot of fun
doing so.

To help build your programming skills, you will attend one lab (2 hours
long) each week for the duration of this course. The enrolment to labs
is now open.

If you have a choice of labs, please enrol in the lab with the
smallest number of students currently enrolled.

Labs commence in Week 1. This means that many of you will attend a lab
before the first lecture. Do not worry about this - the first lab and first lecture, in either order, act together as a good introduction to the course.

It is essential that you use StReaMS
to enrol in a lab session by Week 1.

COVID-19 and Online Study

Due to COVID-19, the University has decided that for Semester 2 2020,
“all large group learning activities and all lectures will be
conducted
remotely.“
Consequently, all aspects of this course will be delivered online
until and unless the University’s policy changes. Lectures will be
live, online, via Microsoft
Teams,
with live streaming through services including Microsoft
Stream.
Likewise, labs will be live and will also use Microsoft
Teams.

If you will have difficulty engaging in online study, please contact
CECS Student Services so that
they can offer you the best support. For more details on the
University’s response, please see ANU coronavirus

DO NOT select xx:50 slots (e.g. 9:50, 10:50, 11:50, 12:50 …)

Before the exam:

Prepare electronic copies of scans/photos of your photoID (ANU student ID or passport)

You need a device with camera for oral exams (smartphones with Teams app would work)

You need to be online on Teams at least 10 minutes before your booked exam time slot

Tutors will individually call you at your booked exam time

During the exam:

Send scans/photos of your photoID to tutors on Teams once they have called you

Show your photoID on camera so that tutors can cross reference your ID

You need your exam answers and the exam paper in front of you to refer to during the exam

Tutors may ask about part of your exam answers

You will not be told about the results of the exam instantly

After the exam:

Students who require additional conversation with a convenor to confirm that they may pass the course will be contacted

Otherwise, students will be contacted to be told that additional converstaion with a convenor is not necessary

The exam will begin at 02:30 pm Canberra time on 18 June 2020, and will run for 3 hours and 30 minutes.
The exam time will be enforced using Google Canberra time, i.e., the time you get when you search on Google with keyword ‘Canberra time’.

Before the exam:

ensure you have a working home setup for the course including VSCodium and Git; and

ensure you can access your ANU GitLab account.

At the start of the exam:

You will gain access to a private GitLab repository under the exam group in ANU GitLab.

COMP1100

COMP1130

No student currently has access to their exam repository.

Fork this exam to your own namespace. Do not change the name of this repository, or fork it to a different namespace, or we will not be able to mark your exam.

During the exam, tutors will be available on Piazza and Teams so that students can get help in case technical problems arise.

Once you have forked the exam:

answer each question by completing the provided answer file according to the instructions you will find in the file README.md;

answer true/false and multiple choice questions in the file named Answer.md

There is a video on Echo360 which demonstrates how you can edit Answer.md file on VSCodium.

Answer.md file is a template where students can write their answers for non-programming questions. You need to put x in bracket [ ] to mark your answer. You can edit the file Answer.md in VSCodium after the fork.

e.g. I am a student in COMP1100/1130.

[x] True

[ ] False

answer programming questions in given haskell files.

after you complete each question, commit and push your work to GitLab. It is recommended to check if the push was successful in a browser.

The last commit that you push to GitLab before the end of the exam will be used for marking. Any commits pushed after the end time of the exam will be ignored and will not count towards your exam mark. You may commit and push as many times as you wish during the exam time; only the final on-time commit will be marked.

Oral examinations will be held on June 22 and June 23 on Microsoft Teams.

The length of oral examinations will be 5-10 mins

Students need to have a photo ID which you can show before the exam on camera

Past Exams

Students can acceess exams of previous years which can be used to practice with the final exam. The number of weighting of questions and the material covered for the final exam may be different from the previous exams.

The final exam will be distributed via GitLab.
