Assignment Scaling

IMPORTANT: All the mark adjustments are discussed by tutors as a group and we reserve the right to both increase the marks of the individuals beyond the group mark in cases where it is clear that the member went well above and beyond the expectations despite the rest of the group and to decrease the marks even to 0 for those who were completely absent from contributing. It is important that you highlight any team/group issues to your tutor (who can then escalate it to the course convenor if required) as soon as possible so that we can find a way to constructively resolve them.

Based on course feedback, your group mark will be scaled according to the formula shown below:

ROUND((SUM([Group-member-rating])/(([Group-size]*5)))*[Assigment-mark-before-scaling])

For a group of 3, 4, 5, and 6, the group-size multiplied by 5 will be 15, 20, 25, 30 respectively.

You are expected to give a honest, fair, and accurate reflection of each group member. See the policy page for code of conduct and academic integrity.

Group member with No Issues#

For example: A group of 5 students, with the following group member feedback ratings for Student A with a unscaled assignment mark of 80:

Student Rating
A 5
B 5
C 5
D 5
E 5

The group mark would be scaled as follows:

ROUND((5+5+5+5+5)/((5*5)))*80 = 80

Group member contributed some work#

If a group member did not contribute as much as the others, and is accurately reflected in their group member feedback rating, then their group mark will be scaled accordingly. For example: Student A with an unscaled assignment mark of 80, and the following group member feedback ratings:

Student Rating
A 5
B 2
C 1
D 2
E 0

The group mark would be scaled as follows:

ROUND((5+2+1+2+0)/((5*5)))*80 = 32

No Contribution at all#

If a group member(s) did not contribute at all, and is accurately reflected in their group member feedback rating, then their group mark will be scaled accordingly. For example: Student A with an unscaled assignment mark of 80, and the following group member feedback ratings:

Student Rating
A 5
B 0
C 0
D 0
E 0

The group mark would be scaled as follows:

ROUND((5+0+0+0+0)/((5*5)))*80 = 16

As such, even if the student marks themselves as having done full work, their final grade will be scaled down to 16.
