Project:

Preserve Australian Indigenous Language through LLM

Preserving Australian Indigenous languages is crucial for maintaining our cultural identity. Historically, over 300 distinct Indigenous languages were spoken across Australia. As the older generation of speakers pass away, and young generation move into our capital cities, many languages face extinction. To preserve these languages, we want to teach LLMs to permanently preserve these languages. Future generations who are interested in learning these languages can learn and practice these indigenous languages with LLMs. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with world-leading AI experts to build the world’s most advanced Australian Indigenous Language LLMs and work on: 1) creatively leveraging low-resource data, 2) training or fine-tuning LLMs for low-resource language data 3) evaluating the results through strategically chosen questions on indigenous language.

Required/Preferred Technical Skills:

Data curation and synthesis, self-supervised learning, reinforcement learning, supervised learning, PyTorch, linguistics.

Required/Preferred Professional Skills:

Proficient in precise communication, attention to detail, ability to formulate a hypothesis and design experiments to prove it.

Special Requirements:

The intern requires a Police Check.
