Week 10 Final Exam Preparation
Final Exam Coverage
The final exam includes everything taught up to (and including) the day before the exam.
Anything presented on the exam day itself is not included.
Guest lectures, end-of-term lectures, and all other lectures are included.
The only exceptions are:
- Slides labeled “Trivia” or “Psychology” with colored borders
- Optional readings
So yes, material from the lecture right before the exam can appear.
Tutors will go through additional past exam questions during the Week 11 tutorial. There would also be a short set of summary slides highlighting key lecture points. Please note that the purpose of this slide is to organize all the core concepts of software engineering that you can apply in your real-world industry work. The final exam will cover everything taught up to and including the day before the exam, not just what’s included in this slide: Final Thoughts
Exam Philosophy
- Questions focus on comparing, applying, evaluating, or drawing conclusions about key ideas — not just repeating definitions.
- Multiple-choice questions (including tricky ones with distractors) will appear.
- Expect questions that flip or twist concepts.
- If we practiced A → B → C in lectuer, the exam might ask C → B → A.
- Example: If we learned addition and negative numbers, the exam might test subtraction.
- I am wary of asking for very low-level details that you are likely to forget in a few months anyway (e.g., “what is the exact formula for the Maintainability Index?”). However, my view of what is likely to be useful later in life (e.g., code coverage) may differ from that of a frustrated student.
