Lecturers
John Taylor#

Prof John Taylor recently joined the School of Computing at The Australian National University with a focus on computational science and the application of AI to science. Prior to taking up the position at the ANU he was a Chief Research Scientist and Research Group Leader at CSIRO Data61 Computational Platforms Group, the Chief Computational Scientist at DST Group and an Honorary Professor at ANU School of Computer Science. I have recently been appointed Chair of the ACM Gordon Bell Climate Modelling Prize, the internationally recognized HPC prize. The ACM Gordon Bell Prize tracks the progress of parallel computing and rewards innovation in applying high performance computing to challenges in science, engineering, and large-scale data analytics. In recognition of his national leadership in HPC I am currently a member of the Pawsey Capital Refresh Procurement Board, a $70M Australian Government capital refresh project.

Jack Bashford#

Hi, I’m Jack :) I’m in my third year of advanced computing this year, in a blend of both systems and theoretical courses (no clue which one I prefer :p)
I really enjoyed this course last year, there’s a lot of fun rabbitholes to dive down. You’ll certainly think quite deeply about the C you write ;). Looking forward to being one of your head tutors this semester!
Alex Boxall#

Hi everyone, I’m Alex, a fourth year software engineering student. My main interest is in systems and architecture - operating systems in particular. I really enjoyed taking this course, and I’m looking forward to helping you to ‘think deeply, think in C’.
I’m also part of the ANU Solar Racing team, where I mainly work on writing software to simulate the car and race conditions (in C, the language we use in this course!). In my spare time I’ve also recently started doing some Bob Ross-style paintings - they’re a lot of fun!
Christo Anthony#

Hello, I am Christo a recent graduate from ANU, I had completed my bachelors in Advanced Computing Honors with a specialization in Systems and Architecture. I am very interested in writing low level programs to solve important problems quickly. I had taken this course in 2023 and was enlightened by the implications of the terrible code I had written until then (has slightly marginally since then). I hope together we can learn to rethink programming from the ground up.
Itay Yarom#

Hey, I’m Itay, and I’ll be one of your tutors in COMP2310 this semester. I’m a fourth year who took this course in 2023 and I found it to be a very rewarding experience. Outside of uni, I’m a huge fan of both board games and fantasy/sci-fi books. Feel free to come to me if you have any questions!
Kshama Patel#

Hi, I am Kshama. I’ll be one your tutors this semester. I’m in my final year of uni. I loved taking this course as you get to explore the c language in great depth. Looking forward to this semester!
