John Taylor#
Prof John Taylor recently joined the School of Computing at The Australian National University with a focus on computational science and the application of AI to science. Prior to taking up the position at the ANU he was a Chief Research Scientist and Research Group Leader at CSIRO Data61 Computational Platforms Group, the Chief Computational Scientist at DST Group and an Honorary Professor at ANU School of Computer Science. I have recently been appointed Chair of the ACM Gordon Bell Climate Modelling Prize, the internationally recognized HPC prize. The ACM Gordon Bell Prize tracks the progress of parallel computing and rewards innovation in applying high performance computing to challenges in science, engineering, and large-scale data analytics. In recognition of his national leadership in HPC I am currently a member of the Pawsey Capital Refresh Procurement Board, a $70M Australian Government capital refresh project.
Tutors
Adnan Hasnat#
Yo, I’m Adnan! I’m now in my fourth year of my double degree in Computer Science and Maths. This course covers knowledge which I use every day in my research projects. As we explore another layer of programming abstractions and the infrastructure that makes much of modern computing possible, the operating system, I hope you’ll enjoy Cing into a new world. Outside of programming, my hobbies include reading, martial arts and competitive Tetris :).
Alex Boxall#
Hi everyone, I’m Alex, a third year software engineering student. My main interest is in systems and architecture - operating systems in particular. I really enjoyed taking this course last year - and I’m looking forward to helping you to ‘think deeply, think in C’.
I’m also part of the ANU Solar Racing team, where I mainly work on writing high-performance software in C to simulate the car and race conditions. A lot of the memory-related concepts from this course are quite useful!
Christo Anthony#
Hi there! I’m Christo, a final-year Advanced Computing (Honors) student specializing in Systems and Architecture. I took COMP2310 last year and had a blast diving into C programming—yes, lots of debugging included! This course reshaped how I approach designing programs, focusing on efficiency and security in modern systems. I’m thrilled to be your tutor and look forward to making this journey as engaging and insightful as my experience was!
Itay Yarom#
Hey, I’m Itay, and I’ll be one of your tutors in COMP2310 this semester. I’m a third year who took this course in 2023 and I found it to be a very rewarding experience. Outside of uni, I’m a huge fan of both board games and fantasy/sci-fi books. Feel free to come to me if you have any questions!
Lavender Neesham#
Hi I’m Lavender, going into my fourth year in computer science focusing on systems and architecture! I’m just a fun kind of gal so feel free to approach me or join my tutorials if you want some extra lame jokes!
Sam Liersch#
Hello everyone! My name is Sam (He/Him) and I am a third year Studying a double Bachelors of Engineering and Science. I am always excited to meet new people and am available for a chat at any time so if you see me around do say Hi. I love computer science especially low level and high performance computing so my favorite language is of course C (Rust is growing on me as well). I am glad that I have a chance to help you all start your journey in C. I am looking forward to meeting you all!
Sophie Press#
Hello! My name is Sophie and I am currently in my fifth year studying Computer Science. I hope you all enjoy studying COMP2310 this semester and I am here to help with any questions that you have :)
Yuki Misumi#
Hi, I’m Yuki, currently in my second year of the Master of Computing with a focus on computer systems. This course has provided me with a solid foundation in system programming, and I’m excited to help you navigate it as well! In my free time, I enjoy making games (though I don’t always finish them, hehe). Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or just want to chat about tech!
