Industry, government, and community organisations engaging and collaborating with teams of young professionals to develop, prototype, and launch real solutions. TechLauncher is an initiative which enables students at the Australian National University to develop and exhibit the research and professional skills required to use technology to bring great ideas to life and have a positive impact on our society.
Alongside technical competence, these skills include communication and stakeholder management, critical thinking, design, teamwork (including multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural and distributed teamwork), time management and a diverse range of other skills and competencies sought by employers in industry and government as well as by the research community.
Students develop these skills by working within a context that is much broader than the ANU. They work closely with industry professionals, technology experts, and entrepreneurs across the ACT and Australia to complete projects addressing complex problems in a variety of disciplines and industries, or to create their own startup enterprises. It is this context and breadth of involvement that provides our students with a deeply engaged and effective learning environment.
Get involved
TechLauncher is seeking high quality host organisations to work with our students.
TechLauncher involves ANU Computing students working in teams of 5-7 in collaboration with host organisations from industry, government, community, or from within ANU.
Projects run over 2 consecutive semesters (March to October, or August to May), with students dedicating 8 hours per week to their project. Suitable projects are relevant to computing, provide some degree of complexity, and are not on the critical path of an organisation. The main purpose of TechLauncher is to provide a learning opportunity for our students and to provide an opportunity for students to engage with the broader community on meaningful and interesting projects.
TechLauncher partners are required to dedicate at least 1 hour per week to meet with and support their student team and to provide any resources and support that are reasonably required to complete the project, including tools and technical expertise.
