Assignment Scaling

IMPORTANT: All the mark adjustments are discussed by tutors as a group and we reserve the right to both increase the marks of the individuals beyond the group mark in cases where it is clear that the member went well above and beyond the expectations despite the rest of the group and to decrease the marks even to 0 for those who were completely absent from contributing. It is important that you highlight any team/group issues to your tutor (who can then escalate it to the course convenor if required) as soon as possible so that we can find a way to constructively resolve them.

For Group Assignment2: Your GitLab repository will be looked over for contribution of each group member. Group scaling will be calculated from the Wattle Quiz.

For Group Assignment 3: Tutors will be watching for the individual contributions of group members as identified within the report, see Activity 3. As well as:

  • Feedback from the Wattle Quiz

New scaling methodology will be added soon based on the exponetial scaling using (Gompertz Function)[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gompertz_function] which effectively results in no penalty for those ranked by their team mates as 3.5 or higher and much faster (exponentially) increasing penalty if you are ranked 0/1/2 etc.

You can play around with this equation here: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/kjathz1zx2

Example with the parameters:

  • a = 50 (Assignment mark - Change to your raw assignment mark)
  • b = 5 (X-axis displacement)
  • c = 1.3 (Y-axis displacement - Scaling)
  • x = 3.5 Drop off point (where the scaling starts to decrease exponentially if your group member feedback is 3.5 or lower)
  • +5 (Constant setting minimum possible grade)

The new scaling formula does not decrease the marks of anyone with an average contribution of 3.5 or higher. This does not give extra marks on top of the original group mark. We then request any group members to identify to their tutor and Alex if they feel that they think their contribution was significantly higher or affected by issues in their team so that we can adjust the marks accordingly.
