Sichao Li

Postdoctoral Fellow

Sichao Li is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Australian National University (ANU), where he works at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience, focusing on understanding patterns of non-stationary neural connectivity in the brain. He completed his Master of Computer Science at ANU in 2020 and began his PhD in 2021 under the supervision of Prof. Amanda Barnard. In early 2025, he joined ANU as a Jubilee Joint Associate, collaborating between the School of Computing and the Eccles Institute at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, where he is a member of the Computational Neuroscience Group led by Dr. Michael McCullough.

Sichao’s research interests center on eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) and AI applications in science, driven by the belief that AI and machine learning can be transformative tools for addressing real-world scientific challenges. His work has introduced novel XAI frameworks and addressed key problems in material science, with publications in ICLR, Cell Reports Physical Science, and other top-tier venues. He was honored as a Best Reviewer for NeurIPS and AISTATS.
