Blog post provocation

think: Your provocation for this week’s blog is “engagement through narrative and interaction.” Your task is to find an example of a narrative AND/OR an example of an interaction which you have encountered in the past which had some lasting impression on you. A narrative is the way a series of events are presented – like a story, but we do not mean a story: we mean an artwork with a narrative structure. An interaction does not necessarily have to be with something digital and you do not necessarily have to have engaged in the interaction yourself. You may have just observed an interaction. The narrative or interaction you choose should, in some way, be related to what you are trying to communicate through your artefact - the artwork you are creating for your final project.

Blog post: What to include in your blog post?

do: We DO NOT expect you to implement any changes in your own artefact to discuss in this blog (as we have done in the past). You can simply discuss your ideas. Having said that, we won’t stop you if you want to implement and test any ideas which were inspired by the narrative/interaction you chose.

Screenshots and/or screen recordings

We want to see the thing! If you can acquire some media (photos, nature, videos, installations, film scores, music, instruments etc.) of the narrative or interaction, please include it in your blog post; even if it’s just a hand-drawn sketch or a link to a video.

Discussions

We want to read the thing! Write a short paragraph which covers the following discussion points:

  1. describe your chosen narrative/interaction, including the artist and contextual information
  2. how did it leave a lasting impression on you? What affect did it have in you?
  3. what was it about the narrative/interaction that made it so effective at leaving a lasting impression on you?
  4. how does the narrative/interaction relate to what you want to communicate through your artefact?
  5. how might you incorporate ideas from this narrative/interaction when developing your artefact with code? What might the potential challenges be?
