30 Jul

Homework 1 was released today. The content taught this week should be enough for you to solve the first part.

20 Jul

We have opened a new lab on Wednesdays at 08:00, and a corresponding Week 1 drop-in. We have also added two new strictly optional workshop times in weeks 1 and 2 (since we have a room reservation for those weeks, too).

The workshop in week 1 will serve as another opportunity to set up your personal devices with the required software, so you don’t have to go to one of the drop-ins.

The workshop in week 2 will be held by one of our tutors, Carlo Zancanaro, and cover content commonly referred to as the “hidden curriculum”, i.e. things that are very useful for you to know while not technically the subject of any regular course (you may also want to check out the “missing semster” course materials from MIT). Attending it is strictly optional; it will not teach any new content that might be part of any exams or other assessments. Regular course workshops will still start in week 3.

Welcome to COMP1110/1140/6710! We’re looking forward to meeting you! This website contains all relevant information about the course, with the exception of marks (you’ll find those in Canvas), lecture recordings (Echo360, accessible via Canvas), and code (GitLab).

Please consider the following Week 1 Checklist:

  • Read the course website, in particular our Overview, Course Policies, and familiarize yourself with the course’s Assessments.
  • Allocate yourself to a lab (ComA) on MyTimetable, and to the two midterm tests (AsmA and AsmB).
  • Check out the class forum on Ed Discussion - log in via via Canvas or using your UID-based e-mail address.
  • Make sure you can login to GitLab. Use the ANU SSO button instead of typing in a user name and password on the GitLab login page.
  • If you have an Education Access Plan (EAP), make an appointment with the convener to discuss it.
  • Attend the lectures, especially the first one on Tuesday, 28 July, at 1pm in Melville Hall G01.
  • Install the recommended Software on your laptop. If you need help with that, attend a drop-in session in Week 1. Not all drop-in sessions on MyTimetable will run, check the Weekly Schedule to see which drop-ins will run.

See you at the first lecture!
