If you have a bad problem™ with your gitlab repos and need help. This is the page for you.

We have advice below on how to get help with different situations, and where you can find specific advice.

The most important thing is not to panic. It’s not uncommon to run into problems with gitlab and git repos, it happens to experts (including lecturers!) as well as beginners. We have a whole website of help here and there is more available in your courses. Having problems with git is not a reflection on you, it’s a normal part of being a computer scientist.

N.B.: Please don’t email or direct message your lecturer or tutors to get help. All courses provide a forum or message board where you can ask for help in an appropriate way.

Getting Help in Specific Situations#

Here’s a short list of help you might need:

Almost all questions you could have in this course have documentation on this website or should be asked on your course forum. Please don’t send emails or Teams chat messages regarding any questions that are listed above.

General Advice for Getting Help with Gitlab#

  1. Read this website: It’s a good idea to read through the resources here carefully. It is likely that your gitlab situation is covered on one of the main pages.

  2. Attend your lab sessions: the tutors in your course are there to help you, but you can only get their help by showing up to your labs.

  3. Ask good questions on your course forum. This way, your questions benefit others as well and you can get answer from the other students as well as lecturer and tutors.

  4. Private messages should generally be asked as private questions on your course forum and not through email or Teams messages to your lecturers.

The CSSA are incredibly happy to help you. I’m a lecturer and they even help me from time-to-time. If you need help, want to explore a topic, or need a cheap second-hand computer, these folks can help.
