Organisation:
Spatial Sound R&D Cost effective platforms for artistic creation and delivery of novel audio experiences on 30 - 3,000 channels.
Project:
Global Audio Connectivity
AES67 provides a framework for low latency real time audio connectivity. DickinsAudio has a robust embedded stack (DAES67) for supporting this on local networks. In this project, the goal is to create a scalable solution that involves an appliance that can be placed on site, which presents as a local set of source and destination audio streams. This will then link in with a cloud backend to provide mesh connectivity and simple programatic or gui approaches to create routes and/or mixing of these audio ports between sites. The internal system will manage best case latency with long term time alignment - facilitating projects such as real time performance. By using the local appliance, the system will provide immediate almost ‘zero config’ presence on existing audio networks (such as Dante or other AES67 systems), and the ability to locally change the patching. The main system or DAES67-TRUNK will provide a infrastructure and more static trunk routing, with a separate and stable configuration and monitoring system. In this way, sites can quickly work together collectively, with channels on the appliance facilitating instrument input, mix outputs, site to site full duplex, and mixed group communications channels for voice. A comparable commercial system, created by the project lead Glenn Dickins, is Dante Connect. The goal of DAES67-TRUNK is to create something simpler, more scalable and ultimately lower cost for the industry.
