Enrolment#
Before the end of week 1, you must enrol in a lab session using MyTimetable. Enrolments are already open and we encourage you to enrol as early as possible. This will help us allocate Tutors to the labs. If you are unsure on how to enrol in labs using MyTimetable, please read the MyTimetable support page and user guide. Note that a lab runs in week 1, but you may attend any of the sessions to get lab 1 marked off. You are also welcome to attend multiple sessions in this first week if you run into trouble with the software setup or lab tasks.
Week 1#
In week 1, we will run all labs as drop-ins. This means you can go to any, and as many, labs as you want, in week 1 only. Of course, you much respect that the labs have limited space and the tutor has limited time. If you come to a lab that is already full, wait and go to another. This means you can also get your lab engagement checked in any lab in this week. You should ask a tutor to check off your lab 1 only once.
From week 2 onwards, you must only attend the lab that you are enrolled in.
What if you miss a lab?#
If, for some reason, you are unable to attend your scheduled lab in some week, then you can come to any of the drop-in sessions to get help with any questions or problems. You can also go to a different lab, and if the tutor has time, they will help you, but they will always prioritise students who are allocated to that lab, and you should leave if the tutor asks you to.
However, you cannot get your lab checked for marking purposes outside of the lab you’re allocated to. If it is a one-off, that’s very unlikely to have any effect on your lab engagement mark (as explained on the corresponding page). If you anticipate that this will be a recurring issue, then you should switch now to a lab that you can attend in most weeks (or put yourself on the waitlist in MyTT, if there is no free space in any of those).
The Labs Repository#
The labs repository is the basis for COMP1110 lab exercises. Instructions for each lab are contained in the lab repository.
In lab 1, you will fork your own copy of this repository, which you will use for the remainder of the semester.
Lab Test#
You will sit an in-lab exam in week four.
Consultations#
There are drop-in consultation sessions available throughout the week starting in week 2 on-campus. These are 1 hour sessions open to anyone, regardless of when your lab time is, and you do not need to sign up for them. The drop-in consulation hours and locations are listed in MyTimetable
